"The Miracle Worker" Opens on September 26

The Miracle Worker, the first show in our 2014-15 main-series season, opens on September 26. This classic play by William Gibson tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller. Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent and spoiled. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence.

The Miracle Worker is sponsored by American Hearing Center of Temple and Killeen.

Evening performances (8 p.m.) are September 26, 27, October 2, 3 and 4. Matinee performances (2:30 p.m.) are September 28 and October 5. Reserved seat tickets are $18 for adults and senior citizens, and $10 for students and children. Online ticket reservations and credit-card sales begin September 2. Box office sales (with a live person assisting customers) begin Tuesday, September 16.

The cast includes Brittany Sharkey, Annie Sullivan; Allison Owens, Helen Keller; Sam Wilds, Captain Keller; Halli Watson, Kate Keller; Clyde Ciupek, James Keller; Jill Main, Aunt Ev; Carrie Ling, Viney; Joy Ciupek, Martha; Jeff Sims, Percy; and Evan Clawson, Anangnos. Blind girls include Dindy Brown, Sophia Campos and Esalma Mojica.

Our guest director is Mitch Baker, a native Texan who received his BFA and MA in directing from Texas State University in San Marcos. He also earned an MFA from the University of Cincinnati/College Conservatory of Music. He has worked as Director and Costume Designer with Mill Mountain Theatre, Opera Roanoke, Shenandoah University. University of Michigan-Flint, University of Texas at El Paso, Theatre Memphis and several smaller theatres and schools around the country. Cabaret, Don't Hurt the Daisies and A Christmas Carol are among three of his favorite shows he has directed, and each one was awarded The Milton Leech Award for best production. Mitch has also written a couple of plays and is currently working on a musical and a youth novel.

Jennifer Murphy is stage manager and Dustin Ozment is technical director.
