In 1960s Baltimore, dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad (Hannah Gilmore) dreams of appearing on The Corny Collins Show. Her mother Edna (Jeff Ellis) says no, but her dad Wilbur (John Elwood) tells her to go for her dreams.

After meeting Corny Collins (Brad Huckabay) at a high school dance, Tracy wins a spot on his show and becomes an instant on-air sensation, much to the chagrin of the show’s reigning princess, Amber Von Tussle (Leanne Bledsoe), and her scheming mother Velma (Paige Rendon).

Even worse for Amber is the fact that it’s not just the audience who loves the new girl in town — Amber’s sweetheart, Link Larkin (Danny Martinez), seems to be smitten with Tracy’s charms as well. At school, a short stint in detention and raised-eyebrows caused by the budding relationship between her best friend Penny Pingleton (Kris Glorioso) and Seaweed (Samuel Oatis) opens Tracy’s eyes to a bigger issue — racial inequality. Throwing caution to the wind, she leads a march with Motormouth Maybelle (Wanda Gunther) to fight for integration.

Other characters include Caitlin Richardson, Prudy Pingleton; Jaidyn Henry, Little Inez; Terence R. Dittman, Jr., Mr. Pinky; Russ Williams, Harriman F. Spritzer; Martha Satterwhite, jail matron and gym teacher; and Marshal Hodges, principal.
